Adrian's Top Tip #003

Top tip. After having applied Liqui-Met Iron or copper and you want a super rust or Verdigris effect, leave the metal to cure overnight before applying Liqui-Met rusting solution.

The reason for this is, if there are still solvents present they will inhibit the acid solution from doing its job. Giving the metal  a little longer to cure will pay off by giving better effects in the long run.

Adrians Top Tip - #002

"Orange Peeling" ... It's a nightmare. Having used many Liquid Metal Coatings over the years, I have seen this time and time again. Typically these sorts of things happen when you are pressed for time, or your working on a big project which is of course less than ideal.

If you've noticed this and are now pacing around your spray shop wondering what to do... stress not, just follow the below and you'll have your project back on track in no time.

Go Backwards To Go Forwards

Should you start to notice that your metal has begun to look somewhat like Orange Peel, Speckled or Blotchy, then the best thing to do, is to stop, and go back down to a coarser grit such as a 400 where you effectively start over with your sanding process from that point forward.

The main reason for 'Orange Peeling' ion metal, is due to a typically poor gun setup or spraying technique, which means that during the application process, the liquid metal is not atomised correctly. If the gun is held either too close, or too far away from the surface this will effect the finish.

On our training courses we cover all aspects of the setup and application processes and beyond, so that you have all the knowledge you need to make use of Liqui-Met hassle free. Contact the team today and find out more.

Harness The Power Of Air...

Tired of using a traditional Mixing Stick? Well... we've got a super simple tip that could help save you time and ensure greater consistency with your finished metal coatings.

We often get asked by our customers, if we have any useful tips or bits of advice we can share to help them make the most out of range of metal coatings.

So, we've decided to publish a series of useful tips that can help you to make the most out of our coatings and achieve some great results.

Today, we wanted to share with you how we are able to produce samples each day and end up with a consistent coating of metal that looks great and shows off what you can do with our products. The secret... Air Power!

When using the traditional method of mixing together the components that go into our products, often our customers use a mixing stick. Mixing our products that way is totally fine and often works well, but if you are keen to get a smooth, consistent coating of your chosen metal on your chosen surface, we recommend using an Air Drill with a whisk attachment. By utilising this method, you can make sure the mix is blended well so you don't have to worry about any part of the solution not being bound together properly.

This can help you save time, money and more importantly stress! Working with Liquid Metal Coatings can be tricky, but it doesn't have to be... that's why we started Liqui-Met, to make Metal Coatings that are easy to use, offer great results and are cost effective.
